This study is a replication of a 2008 study of similar design, conducted by Dr. Pierce and CSR in response to a mandate passed by the Commonwealth of Virginia requiring girls to be vaccinated against HPV, or Human papillomavirus, prior to entry into the sixth grade starting in 2009. Using a prospective cohort design, this is a study of parents of girls in the age range of 11-12 who have been outpatients at the UVa Health System. The study asked parents about their child’s health care provider, childhood vaccinations, their impressions regarding HPV vaccine, and their decision whether or not to vaccinate their daughter. One goal of the study is to assess whether rates of vaccine uptake have improved since the original cohort was studied.
