Address-based sample of 500 addresses in eastern North Carolina, divided into two groups: 250 in close proximity to hog farms and 250 not in close proximity.
Surveys and data collection
This was a mail-out survey asking residents if they had been diagnosed with asthma. A sample of respondents to the survey was to be asked to participate in a home visit that included a spirometry (lung capacity) breath test. The goal was to determine if there was a correlation between living in proximity to large-scale hog farming and asthma prevalence. The study was terminated before completion.
